How are we doing it?

We are an underground feminist movement, not because we are cowards, not because we are Thagaris, but because at the end of the day, we live in a society where the majority is not ready to accept equality between the sexes. We also live in a society that is increasingly adhering to stricter interpretations of the Islamic faith which we really don’t believe, that snubs the notion of equality. We are up against ‘militant Muslims and 5 times paraying muslims’

Our Mission – MALDIVES PANTI JAMIYYA

We will respond to verbal, physical, psychological and other forms of attack against women through parceling them panties (JANGIYA or FODI FUREYNI) that undermine women’s place and role in society. However, we work within a ‘religious’  context as we are a Muslim community and we are practicing Muslims (cos no Maldivian is non Muslim). Our goal is not to negate Quran, Hadith or Islamic principles, but to find women’s rightful place in society by tackling Quran and Hadiths in which they can flourish and realize their true potential. We will be fighting against women covering which is disgusting and we want women’s right to marry other women. We will fight for these rights and if quran or hadith prohibits this, just leave it..what the hell. We emphasize the fact that many feminists are Muslim Women. Working for women’s rights does not mean that one is not a pious and good Muslim.

Who the hell are we?

WE  is the underground feminist movement, led mostly by women women and some gay guys, that fights against rising fundamentalism and the associated erosion of already scarce liberal attitudes towards women and Gay people in our society. We reject overarching and untrue labels such as ‘Americanized’ , ‘Westernized’, ‘Sodomy’, ‘Thagari’. We look at our own society and deduce that the suffering of women is directly linked to the strong patriarchal system that breeds harmful prejudices against women, such as their inferiority and servitude to men.
